PALMISTRY - THE SIMIAN LINE
Simian means primate, (monkeys, gorillas and apes) most have more transverse lines than humans. The most common question people ask about a palm is about the simian line. It is so easily recognized and until recent times, it was common in cases of downs syndrome. An average hand shows three dominant lines. A simian, however has only two, the heart line and head line show as only a single line.
The simian is a very interesting character. Many thought it was a sign that the person would be limited in what they could learn and accomplish, or even survival was in question. Thankfully this is untrue for some. There is a higher than average number of simians who will have a plethora of disorders both physical and psychological. The simian line is common in downs syndrome, higher in Asian populations (34% in Japanese royalty) and uncommon in European populations (about 1% unless you are of gypsy heritage). In some cases, the simian line may be an indicator of a special gift. If your doctor has a simian she may have a lot of trouble in her relationships, she may have a terrible bed-side manner, but she will be an incredibly gifted physician. They can be gifted, though unfortunately, the gift is often in one area not many. Famous simian lines - Tony Blair, Hillary Clinton, Robert De Nero, Ethan Hawke, Bob Dylan. The simian line is one of the most studied by the medical community as there are a lot of syndromes and behaviors in common with the simian line.
Aside from the medical concerns, and there are over 100 conditions, in strictly psychic terms what might a simian line tell us? Most simians have intense personalities, they can be extremely focused in one area of their life to the detriment of all others. Those who are high functioning individuals tend to live life more intently and have an undercurrent of anxiety, unease and often do not sleep well. They feel less connected, they will try to appear more cheerful than they really feel, they have a higher than average rate of suicidal thoughts, and interestingly they have a sharp sense of humor and people find them to be terrific comics and they seldom seek therapy. Another interesting point is they are most often quite spiritual and seldom religious. Many who think they have a simian line really do not, or have them only on one hand, below are some examples of palms that may be confused with simian lines.
